What "Siri" means in Japanese

Today, I was showing my spouse how to change Siri’s spoken voice to Japanese. She’s a genius and learned Japanese in college and noticed right away that the voice in the phone pronounces “Siri” as “Shidi” (spelled “Shiri”). That sounds like “shitty” which was already pretty funny before she told me that “Shiri” literally means “butt” in Japanese.

In fact, you can right now direct your kids to see a popular public television show called “Oshiri Tante” about a cartoon butt that solves mysteries: www.oshiri-tantei.com
